Fen isdevelopingpackaged tools and support services around the DAKOTA (Design Analysis Kit for Optimization and Terascale Applications) toolkit.
The existing toolkit already provides significant benefits by enabling an interface between simulation models and iterative analysis methods to facilitate design optimization, sensitivity analysis, uncertainty quantification, and model calibration. Further, the toolkit already interfaces to some commercial and open-source simulation software (e.g. OpenFOAM). Despite the great utility, the steep learning curve needed to instantiate, operate, and fully interface DAKOTA to myriad simulation models prevents widespread adoption.
Fen is in the early stages ofdevelopinga scalable cloud platform based on DAKOTA, combining it with an easy-to-use web interface, commercial support tools and services aimed at specific industry applications. These packaged tools will be aimed at a small range of applications so that most of the complexity in the model workflowwill be hidden from the userand they can concentrate on using the results.
This work will be of use wherever computer aided engineering (CAE) tools are used by non-specialist for example in the electronics industry andengineering consultancy. This will materially benefit these companies by improving the quality of their calculations and facilitating the use of optimization algorithmsand quality control methodswithoutminimaluser effort.
